Police seal off canal after reports of body in the water

POLICE have sealed off a stretch of canal in Leigh following reports a body was in the water. Officers were called at about 7am on Thursday, 25 March 2021 to reports there was a body in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal near King Street in Leigh, a police spokesperson confirmed. Greater Manchester Police’s underwater search team have attended along with paramedics and fire crews.

Police have confirmed the body of a man has been found and enquiries are ongoing.

Officers remain at the scene.

Residents report the area is cordoned off.
